Nokia Lumia 720

The battle to capture the smartphone market is heating up . The Nokia phone company has released its own range of Lumia smartphones to try and find an answer to the market dominance of iPhone and Samsung smartphones. The Nokia Lumia 720 was recently released to add to the Lumia 920, 620 and 820. This Lumia targets the more budget-conscious smartphone users.

The 720 has a 4.3-inch display and despite the price the phone has an impressive Gorilla glass screen. The screen has ClearBlack coating which reduces outdoor glare and it is also highly sensitive and responds well to all navigational gestures even with gloves on. The screen is 800 by 480 with 217ppi. Unlike the bulky 920, the 720 weighs just 128 g and is 9 mm thick. It has curved edges which make holding the phone quite comfortable and a polycarbonate casing giving the phone a pricey feel. The phone comes in a wide range of colors like the other Nokia phones which is a major selling point.
Buttons on the 720 are similar to those on other Lumias; the power, volume rocker and camera buttons are all still there on the right edge. As usual the 3.5 mm jack is found on the top. Close to the bottom are a speaker and three holes for wireless charging. The wireless charging cover fits on the back of the device. The 720 has a microSD slot on its left side capable of holding up to 64GB of storage with the phone having 8GB internal memory. It does not end there; the user will be able to access 7GB online skydrive storage. One of the most important selling points in Lumia phones, the camera, does not disappoint in this case. The 720 has a 6.7-Megapixel camera with LED flash. The phone can capture very impressive photos even in the dark although some images might appear blurry under very bright conditions. This Lumia also has a 1.3-Megapixel front facing camera. Users can be able to shoot video in 720p quality although Nokia should have tried to integrate its high megapixel PureView technology in this range as well.
It is powered by a dual-core 1GHz chip along with disappointing 512MB of RAM. This might be because of the low price tag but the phone but the phone is very reactive with most apps responding very fast. The 720 reacts to most commands such as taps and pinches very fast. As expected the phone runs on the windows 8 OS which runs pretty well and also comes with some pre-installed Nokia Apps such as the Nokia Music App and Here maps. Connectivity in this phone is one of its down-points. It has Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS and dual-band Wi-Fi but no 4G! This might be because this phone targets the Asian and European market in areas where LTE is not very popular. The lumia 720 has a 2000mAh battery.
The Lumia is a fantastic phone considering the price tag and the impressive specs. It might disappoint in terms of hardware but just like Nokia put it during the release, the target demographic don’t mind not having the highest hardware technology as long as they get quality. The Lumia 720 might be worth trying out.
